Step 9 Connect the hosts
- Confirm that the host hardware and software are compatible with the storage system. For details, see the Hitachi Vantara Product Compatibility Guide.
- Prepare the storage system and the host hardware and software for connection to the storage system. For details and instructions, see the Open Systems Host Attachment Guide here under Hardware Guides.
Before you connect the hosts to the storage system:
Connect the Fibre Channel ports to hosts
Fibre Channel (FC) port assignments
Procedure
- Pull all the FC cables into the rack frame, passing them through the cable opening at the bottom.
- Connect the FC cables to the connector of each port. Insert the FC cables until they are fixed to the Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP). Check that the cable latch clicks and that the cables are securely connected.
- Fix the FC cables to the clamp with binders of the cable passing through the opening on the bottom plate.
- Connect the FC cables to the host devices.
Connect the iSCSI ports to hosts
iSCSI port assignments
iSCSI ports are available with optical or copper Ethernet ports:
- Optical iSCSI port: Use a single-mode or multimode XFP optical cable.
- Copper iSCSI port: Use a Category 5 or better Ethernet LAN cable.
Procedure
- Pull all the optical or STP cables into the rack frame, passing them through the cable opening at the bottom.
- Connect the optical or STP cables to the connector of each port. Insert the cables until they are fixed to the Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP). Check that the cable latch clicks and that the cables are securely connected.
- Fix the optical or STP cables to the clamp with binders of the cable passing through the opening on the bottom plate.
- Connect the optical or STP cables to the host devices.
